Celebrating World Environment Day 2014

DFE’s partners, Wildlife Conservation Nepal (WCN) and Associação do meio ambiente (ama) celebrated this year’s World Environment Day with various exciting activities, focusing on different ecosystems and their importance.

In Mozambique, trees were planted by students and community members, students performed songs and dances related to the environment, there were speeches by government officials, theater performances by school theater groups, and even a football match. The focus was on forest ecosystems and local language was used to teach about the importance of healthy forest ecosystems. Students participated in an art competition on the theme ‘Functional Forest Ecosystems’.

In Nepal, trees were planted, students learned about various ecosystems at the National Botanical Garden, in Kathmandu and there was an art competition on the theme ‘Our Water Bodies’. There was a movie screening and lectures on environment security. WCN also participated in a local eco fair. The WCN stall featured many of its publications on outdoor education and hand made decorative items by the women’s groups from the fishing community of Chitwan.

All in all, successful celebrations that brought people together around the issue of ecosystems and our environment.
